Skin Resurfacing | Long Island

IPL

IPL, Intense Pulsed Light, is a light therapy process used to treat skin conditions such as age spots, sun damage, varicose veins, birthmarks, and rosacea. IPL causes less damage to the skin than a traditional laser by penetrating the second layer of skin without harming the first layer.

It is important to refrain from certain activities, such as tanning beds, waxing and chemical peels for two weeks prior to your treatment. Your specialist will also recommend avoiding certain medications and topical ointments prior to the procedure.

Depending on the treatment area, the procedure usually takes between 20-30 minutes. We recommend three to six treatments for optimal results. You may feel slight discomfort during the treatment, however, most patients are able to return to regular activities immediately after. Redness and sensitivity are common and usually subsides within a couple of days.

Non-Ablative Resurfacing

Non-Ablative skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive treatment that reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks and improves skin texture, tone and laxity. The process is performed by using the Lumenis M22 laser to deliver heat deep into the skin to tighten underlying skin and stimulate collagen growth.

The procedure usually takes between 20-30 minutes and most patients feel little to no pain during the procedure. Because this treatment is non-invasive, you can also return to daily activities immediately after. Results from non-ablative resurfacing are gradual and a series of treatments may be required to reach your skin goals. Your doctor will help develop a full treatment plan.

Ablative Resurfacing

Ablative resurfacing is one of the most effective ways to reduce the signs of aging and sun damage. These lasers are much more intense and often require anesthesia or sedation as well as recovery time. Unlike non-ablative treatments, ablative resurfacing works by removing the outer layer of skin and promoting collagen growth to the underlying skin. During the healing process, your body will develop a new outer layer of skin.

Because this procedure is more intense, it is common to experience redness and discomfort after the procedure. Your skin will need 5-6 days to heal. Aftercare is crucial during this healing process and your doctor will provide special instructions to follow. Most patients see a 50-75% improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, sun spots, skin discoloration, and texture. Because aging is inevitable, we recommend regular chemical peels or facials to maintain the results.

Our team of experienced doctors will help determine the best treatment for you based on your skin type and cosmetic goals. Call 516-293-0459 today to schedule your consultation.

The Significance of Beauty

Beauty is not only a central source of joy. It also possesses a great significance for the development of personality, especially in a moral sense.

Genuine beauty liberates us in many ways from the force of gravity, drawing us out of the dull captivity of daily life.
